Typewriter Exhibition Takes Shape

Three days before the big exhibition's opening, the galley containing the Typewriter Exhibition at the Canberra Museum and Gallery is a hive of activity as the displays take shape and the lighting is put in and adjusted. Exhibition curator Rowan Henderson takes a moment's break to look at the latest typewriter book on the market, Robert Messenger's 101 Great Typewriters (which will be available for sale to exhibition patrons, and later online):

Awesome! Is it strange to see machines you actually use behind glass?

Thank you Georg, Richard and Dwayne for your kind comments.
Yes, Dwayne, it is strange. I kept wanting to reach in and touch a spacebar and centre a carriage or pick up a speck of dust. They somehow look smaller behind glass, I hadn't imagined that the curators would be able to pack so many in and yet still much it look reasonably spacious.
Richard, the signs are good, lots of publicity and people already tapping on glass and peering through the doorway wanting to get in. True!
Georg, I've put aside a book for you. Also Richard, a copy is on its way.

Congratulations! What an honor. I wish I were in Australia to attend the opening. It looks wonderful! Everything is so clean and shiny. If only I could get my wife to approve of a few custom glass shelves and a very shiny wooden floor...

Robert, thank you for giving us a glimpse into what promises to be a fantastic exhibition!

The typewriters, already impressive when shown individually, are truly stunning when displayed behind glass in a large group.

Quite an amazing display. Don't you wish you could do this at your home? I'm pretty sure we all do!
Best of luck with everything. I hope the turnout is wonderful and, in turn, you receive many more typewriters from fans and those that appreciate your collection. You've earned it!

I'm a bit sore that I won't be able to come down for it, so I'll just have to enjoy your pictures...
