I am about to get a wooden spacebar made by a local craftsman, as a woman I know has a fixation about what she calls "paddlepop" typewriters - that is, it turns out, typewriters with wooden spacebars. There's no accounting for taste!Robert Messengerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04366507489948676594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248447883714712696.post-11443196137000304822012-05-16T05:49:08.207+10:002012-05-16T05:49:08.207+10:00I think that you have done an excellent job. What...I think that you have done an excellent job. What you are doing now, I was doing 30 years ago for a living, working as a typewriter engineer ! Regarding the Remington, we once had one traded in that had obviously suffered a broken spacebar like yours. The owner's ingenious solution ? He had made an EXACT replica in wood ! Sadly, I had to remove it and replace it with a good secondhand one before the machine was sold on ! Five years ago I gave myself a six-month self-funded course in typewriter mechanics and restoration. That basically meant buying lots of cheap Japanese-made machines, taking them completely apart and trying to put them back together again. Invaluable experience!Robert Messengerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04366507489948676594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248447883714712696.post-17496103676278021482011-03-23T22:41:19.267+11:002011-03-23T22:41:19.267+11:00That is a beautiful Remington. I have an Underwood 18 that's dying to be - uh - dyed.Duffy Moonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10105074089216551597noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248447883714712696.post-12938295366190392292011-03-23T00:31:42.127+11:002011-03-23T00:31:42.127+11:00You are a saviour of machines, sir!
