It was very informative. Thank you! However, my Underwood 3 portable is a little different from any of the images I've seen of others. Specifically, on the machine itself, the UT logo is different (more like the one on the cover of the 1919 manual), the type guide is different, it has no right tab, it has no carriage centering lock (although that may just be missing), it has felt pads not rubber, and on the back, it only says "Made in the USA Patents Pending." As for the carrying case, it has a different style leather handle and a latching lock that pulls out to open the case and looks nothing like a button. I'm hoping you can educate me about these differences. Thank you so much.Debbie Doughtyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16540179561363230197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248447883714712696.post-55334503440866780932013-05-23T23:03:02.140+10:002013-05-23T23:03:02.140+10:00Wonderful story! It worked well then, and is in almost perfect condition. The case is in great shape too but no key. I only just took it out of hiding. It was patented November 9, 1915. I would greatly appreciate any info you could share on this typewriter.

J DukeDukehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05141626279957028261noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248447883714712696.post-54773331683988091952011-07-26T03:54:08.587+10:002011-07-26T03:54:08.587+10:00Congratulations, Bob, on great detective work and ...Congratulations, Bob, on great detective work and also for finding the missing pieces of the Underwood Portable jigsaw. I especially like the case. It has one of the loveliest catches around.
