It was still on its base, but did not include the lid. It's got the left-hook carriage arm, and black keys. Some of the paint has flaked from the frame and the 'h' key spring is out, but looks to be a nice machine.
I suspect it's from 1926, so is pretty old for a Four Bank.

I appreciate your website,Robert! Mine is mostly complete, and all working, with the common problem of missing or disintegrated front rubber feet. I always keep a size selection of black faucet washers on hand, as they're usually a pretty good replacement. They work well with the early Remington portables, which suffer from the same rubber foot problem. I have glued my washers on to the Universal with epoxy glue, and they'll probably outlive me.
As ever, Robert, thanks for your interesting and informative articles!Don Lamperthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10033476212606822358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248447883714712696.post-8144230673585068792016-03-18T12:44:25.853+11:002016-03-18T12:44:25.853+11:00Happy St Patrick's Day Robert!Happy St Patrick's Day Robert!Don Lamperthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10033476212606822358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248447883714712696.post-82960693092712155702016-03-18T12:43:32.351+11:002016-03-18T12:43:32.351+11:00Walked into my favorite junky antique shop, and th...Walked into my favorite junky antique shop, and there sat an Underwood Universal (30,s), and an Olympia SG1 - took the SG1 home, and am cleaning it up. They all still work beautifully. I haven't touched any of them in yonks, and yet they work perfectly - and the ribbons are still OK! I know I will not be able to say the same about the last in the line of Underwood portables.Robert Messengerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04366507489948676594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5248447883714712696.post-28953998672282466462011-11-21T14:04:57.023+11:002011-11-21T14:04:57.023+11:00Excellent idea for a series, I look forward to the...Excellent idea for a series, I look forward to the rest.Richard Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16232053429935587826noreply@blogger.com
