The Slo-Mo IBM Selectric Typewriter in Action
As promised after my post on this IBM Selectric character selection demonstration machine, brilliantly put together by Perth's Peter Brill, here is video of it in action (now working properly, I hope ...):
The speed of a normal IBM Selectric in action:
Very cool. The lower machine really gives you a sense of the intricate dance the element does to type letters on a page. It's poetry in motion.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to see what mechanics are involved in the typing of a single letter! The "guts" of the Selectric work like like a Rube Goldberg creation.
ReplyDeleteFirst video is not available for some reason. Do you have a link to the original?
ReplyDeleteSorry, Bill, and anyone else who had difficulty viewing the videos. I had all sorts of problems loading the videos and keeping them on the post. The blog will only take very short high-res films. I have now loaded two films, one very short at high-res and one much longer at low-res. I hope it is working properly now. Please let me know if it isn't.
