On This Day in Typewriter History: Royals by the Million

On this day (October 9) in 1926, The Hartford Daily Courant reported that the Royal Typewriter Company had just produced its one millionth typewriter.
Royal's first portable had only just gone on sale the previous month, so the one million made to that date were almost all standard-size machines. One million in a little more than 20 years was a remarkable achievement. 
In November 1942, when typewriter production ceased to allow for conversion of the Hartford, Connecticut, factory to armaments manufacturing, Royal had made more than four million typewriters. That's another three million in just 16 years.
Royal produced its 10 millionth typewriter in December 1957.

    Beauuuuutiful ads! Despite of the inherent contradiction of having an un-republican name and while being produced in the United States, still amongst the best machines around.
