Typewriters in Popular Mechanics, 1996

Darryl Rehr was the founding editor of ETCetera magazine in October 1987 and continued on at the helm until issue 49 in December 1999. In 1997 he also produced a fine book, Antique Typewriters. He contributed this piece to Popular Mechanics in August 1996.
It's interesting to look back and see how things have changed for collectors and "highly collectible" typewriters (certainly in prices) in just 16 years. At a rough estimate, I'd say values have gone up 100 times:

  1. Thanks a 1000s for putting this one on-line. Affordable S&Gs, how interesting. So let's think: which ones should we buy now, in 2012? I go for my favourite cheapies. Btw, Breker in Cologne will auction an Apple No. 1 which will certainly reach fantastic heights. This required good thinking in 1976 when it came out.
