Last Interview With Last Survivor of the Sholes & Glidden Typewriter Group

In September 1923, 17 months before he died, Charles Edward Weller gave his last interview on the invention of the first typewriter. The story, written by Ray.E.Smith, appeared on Page 13 of the Indianapolis Sunday Star on September 3. 
Charles Weller was born Michigan in October 1840. He died in La Porte, Indiana, on February 13, 1925.
In 1918, Weller's book The Early History of the Typewriter, was published in La Porte. The original edition can be read or downloaded here. Weller's 1921 biography, Yesterday: A Chronicle of Early Life in The West, (including "Early Telegraph Days") can be read here.

  1. That was a fascinating read, the story of the process of ironing out a new product invention make it come alive (and is much like how new product development still is today).
