Bargains, indeed. Some of these would have done better on eBay or etsy.
ReplyDeleteCertainly some good deals. A good reference -- if only for the purpose of drawing oneself back to reality!

ReplyDeleteWow! Shows how overpriced a lot of the more contemporary typewriters on ebay and etsy are!
ReplyDeleteIn a handful of cases I think the prices paid for fairly common typewriters were ridiculously high (ie that musty, rusty Adler). Overall, however, I think many of the more unusual and more valuable typewriters went dirt cheap. I bet some of these will re-appear on Australian eBay. By and large, the estimates were WAY off the mark in the first place. If it was my collection, I'd be pretty disappointed.
ReplyDeleteWow. If I'd had my socks pulled up I'd've looked into bidding on a couple of these. Those Standard Foldings for $130-$140 a pop would go down a treat. I think it shows not so much that the typewriters on ebay are overpriced (which they are) but that in the open market colour/aesthetic/"rare"/"retro"/fUnKy AtOmIc" values fetch far higher prices than collectable value or rarity.
