The Remarkable Touch-Typing Dynamo, Sadie North

In September 1952, LIFE magazine ran a five-page photographic essay on a remarkable 77-year-old woman, Sadie North, living in Brevard, North Carolina.
Sadie was born in Brunswick, Georgia, in 1875, the daughter of postmaster Limus North and his wife Sophie.
Sadie was born the year after the Sholes & Glidden was first produced by Remington, and at 67, in 1942, she taught herself to touch-type - on a 1925 Remington Model 2 portable.
But that was just one of her remarkable array of skills:
 Sadie and the undivorced school teacher Archie Carter (born Ohio, 1863) lived together for almost 30 years.
