The Ames Behind Ames Typewriter Supplies

Arthur Rutherford Ames founded the Ames Supply Company in Chicago in 1902. He was born on August 19, 1876, in Richfield Springs, New York, and died in La Grange, Illinois, on March 13, 1939, aged 62. He was still president of the company when he died; Ames closed its doors in May 2012.

    Great article Robert. Thank you for scanning and posting it. I also noticed the little snippet of another article on the last page about March 1916 having a record breaking export of typewriters!

    Good material. I have a book published by the Ames Co. about its own history in 1972.
