Help Needed With Replacing a Spring on an Olivetti Lettera 22 Portable Typewriter

This is how the spring normally fits, but I can't work out
how it attaches on the right side.
The spring is missing from the machine I'm trying to fix. A replacement spring will be easy enough to attach on the left, but what about on the right side?

  1. Robert, you may be in luck. I've got a Lettera 22 on the workbench. I think the spring routes under the casting where the piece in front of it pivots. If you look behind the bearing there is a pivot hole. It looks like the spring fastens from under with its hook up and into that hole. My bore scope battery is dead. As soon as it is charged I'll see if I can image or video the location and get an email off to you. Macro digital imaging did not show the area clear enough.

  2. Bore scope images and video have been sent.
Best of luck. This looks like a tedious repair.

  3. Is this the spring you're looking to attach?

  4. Dear Robert,
I have scanned pages 22 and 23 of the Olivetti 22 Repair Bible for you - escapement pages. P23 shows the spring in question and where it is located on each end. Can I send you the scanned pdf's?

  5. Hi from Argentina Robert. I'm a really old fan of your blog!
I have a question regarding the disassembly of the carriage return lever: which unfortunately broke on my favorite lettera 22 (first version with elite typeface). I have found a spare lever with the aluminium post, but I can't seem to remove the broken one. I know that the is some pin below holding the mechanism but cat figure out how to remove it or how hard would be put it back in place.
Can you give any tip? Thanks!
