1920s Remington Typewriter Adverts

From 1923, the year it marked the 50th anniversary of the typewriter, to the introduction of its electric in 1927, the Remington Typewriter Company advertised heavily in The Rotarian, particularly its 'Quiet' No 12 model. Here is a selection of 20 of the adverts, in chronological order:

  1. I wasn't aware that the Remington 12 was called the "Quiet 12." What the heck was quiet about the thing?! Remington seems to have tacitly admitted the absurdity of its advertising by acquiring Noiseless and advertising the Remington Noiseless as a quieter alternative to the 12. Those standard noiseless typewriters really are noticeably less clacky.

  2. Hi Richard. My post of April 15 went into some detail about the Quiet 12. You're right, despite the advertising claims, there was nothing quiet about it.
