Mary Tyler Moore died yesterday in Greenwich, Connecticut, at the age of 80. The actress was born in Brooklyn Heights on December 29, 1936. She was best known for her roles in the television
sitcoms The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970–1977), in which she starred as Mary
Richards, a news producer in
Minneapolis, and The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–1966), in which she played Laura
Petrie, a Westchester homemaker. Her notable film work included 1967's Thoroughly Modern
Millie and 1980's Ordinary People, for which she
was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Moore was diagnosed
with Type I diabetes when she was 33. In 2011, she had surgery to remove a
meningioma, a benign brain tumor. In 2014 friends reported that she had heart
and kidney problems and was nearly blind.

A great collection of photos of an unforgettable actress.
Indeed. Not enough has been said, except in passing, about her Oscar nominated role in "Ordinary People" -- quite a departure for her, and excellent work.
So many typewriter shots from the two different shows! I am especially interested in the second to last shot, with her turning, phone tucked between head and shoulder. Maybe a Remington at the adjacent desk, but what is she using? (And that doesn't look like the regular set for the show either. Interesting.)
I'd say it's a publicity shot possibly taken in a real newsroom. For a closer look at the typewriter, see http://entertainment.time.com/2011/12/29/mary-tyler-moore-at-75-an-iconic-life-in-pictures/photo/mtm_13/
