From Typewriter to Congress

Asbury Francis Lever was born near Springhill, Lexington County, South Carolina,  on this day (January 5) in 1875. He was a Democrat member of the United States House of Representatives from South Carolina from 1901-1919. He was the private secretary to Representative J. William Stokes from 1897 to 1901 and, at age 26, was elected to fill the vacancy caused by Stokes' death.
