On This Day in Typewriter History: The Hammond Takes Shape

PART 208
Santa Claus, who Hammond claimed used a Hammond (which makes sense, as Scott Kernaghan pointed out yesterday) must have known something, because it was on this day (December 18), just one week before Christmas in 1883, that this glorious typewriter finally took shape in patent drawings. James Bartlett Hammond had started applying for patents for his machine in 1875 and returned to the project in 1879.
